2011 Honda Odyssey Review

2011 odyssey

Honda nails the Odyssey Again!
Challenge the stereotypical word “Mini-Van”. In fact that sentence can be improved to- challenge more the perception of the American Minivan. The 2011 Honda Odyssey will introduce some more style to the Family Utility Vehicle (FUV). The 2011 Odyssey takes styling, technology, and functionality to the outer limits.

Styling is important in this market. Not to sound, chauvinistic, but if mamma doesn’t like the ride, let’s go look down the road! So far we have heard of predator, cheetah, tiger, and now here comes the lightning bolt. These design campaigns and mottos sound like a Kung Fu Panda Sequel, but in actuality- style does matter here. Too often I have seen couples enter a dealership, and watch the wife scratch, claw, and bite to not belong to the “Mini-Van” Market. The resistance always lifted once we were able to drive the previous model Odysseys, since it is so hard to argue the functionality and convenience.

The 2011 Honda Odyssey may help open the option (depending on how the subject is brought up, only experienced husbands with evolved tact can be successful). Honda focused less on being the categorical largest van in the sacrifice of style. Lower and Wider! The Honda designers bent the pillars back and folded the medal on the sides to produce the “Lighting Bolt” look from the front door handle fading into their electric design. The Wheel Wells protrude to house the width needed to produce the Honda confident ride!

Functionality has been elevated to epic! Ergonomically, Honda simplified the control panel. Fewer buttons and more functionality from the remaining buttons and interactive dial will reduce driver confusion. The introduction of the “Cool Box” to help insure the backups for the gazillion cup holders are in place. Not to mention the “Trash Ring” will allow a plastic bag to hold the empties, instead of placing them in another random cup holder!  The 2011 Honda Odyssey also has improved the seating. The 2011 Space Odyssey Seating is a must feel! The bolsters conform to the body, and the stitching patterns are superb. Middle row seats will provide an improved middle seat. The outside middle row seats slide inwards and outward! The rear seats now have a folding armrest, and will accommodate adults. The Honda Latch 3 System is now place on 5 of the 6 seating positions for the big families.

A 16.2" Fold Down Flat screen TV will be available, but with a twist- it offers split screen! Honda has pushed the envelope even further in functionality!

Technology- should be a synonym with Honda by now! The 4th Generation Odyssey offers a lower center of gravity making the Odyssey’s handling in a class of its own. Aerodynamic mini-van-, why bother?- The question should have been – “Why not an Aerodynamic mini-van?” Better handling, better gas mileage… seems like the U.S. design team did think outside the cool box! Cool Boxes, Trash Rings, and Split screen TVs are all new technologies for the 2011 Honda Odyssey. There are also new technologies such as a new HDD Navigation Technology and Bluetooth audio! The HDD NAVI is crisper, and it loads the pages much quicker than the DVD based NAVIs. Honda added guides to the Back Up Camera, and on some models you can toggle the display of the camera. How does a HDMI hook-up sound? Or a 12 Speaker Surround Sound system? The audio systems in the new 2011 Honda Odyssey are unbelievable. Some of you may remember the old Memorox Cassette Tape ads… with the guy sitting in the chair getting blasted by sound waves… same thing in the 2011 Honda Odyssey!

Product development and engineering innovations have made the 4th generation Honda Odyssey challenge the outer limits and the derived perception of the American Minivan. Honda Research and Development hit the jackpot when it decided to break the chains of ordinary tradition and cultural design. Sit back, put on your seat belt, and enjoy the latest engineering feat for Honda. Enjoy the Show! !
